Our Aims

1. To advance and defend the interest of workers

To advance and defend the interest of workers in all matters of mutual interest between themselves and their employers in order to improve the standard of living of union members, workers and the working class in general.

2. To advance and defend union members

To advance and defend union members and workers’ employment along with their socio-economic rights and interests.

3. To promote and defend the socio-economic interests

To promote and defend the socio-economic interests of union members, workers and the working class.

4. Resist unfair labour practises

To defend and help union members resist unfair labour practises and dismissals.

5. To promote job security for union members

To promote job security for union members and workers by advocating for job creation programmes and resisting dismissals for operational reasons.

6. To eradicate all forms of unfair discrimination

To eradicate all forms of unfair discrimination in the workplace and society that are based on grounds including but not limited to race, gender, sex, ethnicity, social origin, colour, birth, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, disability, HIV status, religion, culture or political opinion.

7. To build and maintain a democratic worker-controlled union

To build and maintain a democratic worker-controlled union based on non-racialism, non-tribalism, non-sexism, non-homophobic and non-xenophobic principles.

8. To promote democracy and worker control in the union

To promote democracy and worker control in the union by encouraging members, shop stewards, officials and office bearers to work in an accountable and responsible manner.

Our Objectives

1. Recruit and unite workers in pursuit of their economic and social interests and welfare.

2. Provide and promote education and training projects for our members and staff.

3. Eradicate all forms of unfair discrimination in the workplace.

7. Ensure that members actively participate in activities that determine the fate of the union.

8. Importantly, to comply with the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995 as amended,
